  • Atlanta, GA

Job Description

Salary: $113,000 - 153,000 per year Requirements:

  • 7+ years of engineering experience, including at least 4 years of production experience with Elixir, Phoenix, and OTP.
  • Demonstrated Staff-level technical leadership, including setting technical direction for a team and serving as a trusted Elixir resource.
  • Experience designing and operating distributed, high-throughput production systems, with an understanding of failure modes, backpressure, and concurrency tradeoffs.
  • Deep experience building production-scale event-driven systems and using event-streaming platforms such as Kafka, Pub/Sub, or equivalent.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL at scale, including effective data modeling and query performance.
  • Hands-on experience with GCP or an equivalent cloud platform; familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience instrumenting production systems, defining useful measurements, troubleshooting distributed Elixir failures, and supporting on-call observability.
  • Regular use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex, while applying independent judgment and reviewing generated output critically.
  • Ownership and accountability for work from design through production.
  • Strong communication skills, including explaining technical decisions and tradeoffs to engineers, product managers, and stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach to design and code reviews, constructive feedback, and seeking input from teammates.
  • A production-focused mindset that considers reliability, user impact, monitoring, and operational risks.
  • Adaptability with evolving AI/ML technologies, paired with the judgment to distinguish lasting value from hype.
  • Preferred: Experience with Phoenix LiveView, distributed Erlang clusters, and advanced OTP patterns.
Responsibilities:
  • Set the teams technical direction, align implementation with product needs, identify risks and tradeoffs, and contribute to roadmap and planning decisions.
  • Lead design and code reviews, and help ensure technical decisions remain robust as systems scale.
  • Write and maintain high-quality Elixir across the stack, including scalable, fault-tolerant services using OTP supervision trees, GenServer patterns, and Elixir concurrency.
  • Build and maintain event-driven systems, data pipelines, and integrations that support core product workflows.
  • Own the performance, reliability, and security of the product area, working hands-on with GCP and modern infrastructure.
  • Use AI coding tools as a regular part of development and establish sound practices for AI-assisted engineering within the team.
  • Identify opportunities for agentic workflows that reduce manual effort, accelerate development, and provide useful intelligence to operators and customers.
  • Partner with AI and Platform Services teams to use shared agent infrastructure, skill libraries, and MCP integrations in the Elixir stack.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through feedback, code reviews, and design collaboration, strengthening the teams Elixir and OTP practices.
  • Work with Staff and Principal Engineers on cross-team technical initiatives, participate in the Principal Engineering Groups TDD reviews and office hours, and share useful Elixir patterns and feedback.
